How much does a Logo cost?

Many people are surprised to find out that a logo isn't as expensive as they think....

Recently I asked this question on my business Facebook page, " How much do you think a logo design cost?” Some fans guessed anywhere from $500 to $1,000.

Would you be surprised if I told you I start my logo design at $300 ( that's based on up to 4 hours design time) Many people think having a logo professionally created costs much much more. Don't get me wrong - some logos can cost quite a bit more, depending on how many revisions are made, how many hours it takes the designer to create it, if there’s a committee involved in the decision making, etc. Three hundred dollars is just a starting point.

I have inquired with other local design companies such as Zuk Design and Identity Graphics and they are also in the $300 to $350 range so what I am charging is pretty standard for the Cowichan Valley.

It can be very difficult for some people to understand the reason for charging what I do.  Here's 3 reasons why:
1. I'm educated and experienced in graphic design ( yes, there is some theory involved, it's not just knowing the software programs!)
2. The creative process can be challenging and time consuming
3. My time is valuable

Part of the creative process with any design is thinking about the message - what is it, who’s it for, how does the company want to be represented so that their message of workmanship, professionalism, community-minded or other attributes are fully understood in the message, in this case, the logo. This can only be created by interviewing the client, processing the information, looking at other case studies, brainstorming and getting ideas, laying out or sketching the ideas, editing those ideas, and refining the design until it is to everyone's liking.

So yes, a logo can take time, sometimes weeks, sometimes months to finalize. But that’s ok - you don’t want to rush this. Afterall, this is YOU and your company we are talking about. You want to get this right!

I would like to share my most recent logo design. Duncan Christian School approached me last spring to create a new logo as their previous one had been around for almost 35 years. It was time for something new, fresh and modern and something that best represented what the school is all about. After many meetings with the school's marketing team, I came up with their new tagline, "building on faith, family and community" and the logo itself came afterwards. This was a few months work and no, this was not a $300 logo - I spent a lot more than 4 hours on this!

If you take a look at the school's  Facebook page, the history of their logo is explained.

I would love to discuss your brand or logo questions in more details so please feel free to email or call me - I do offer an hour FREE consult!
