On Being Thankful

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's that time of year when I reflect on what I am thankful for in my life.

Business relationships that have turned into friendships

When my husband Cory passed away suddenly almost 4 years ago, my family and friends were  immediately at my side. However, the one thing that surprised me was the love I received from the business community. Not that there’s any doubt this community is the best place to live but some of these business people I had just met. These wonderful people arrived at my house with flowers, food, some just sat with me, others got me out of the house for many walks while others took me to lunch.  What I found pretty amazing was their ability to open up their hearts and share with me their stories of their own personal losses. whether it was a husband, a child, a grandparent. It made me feel not alone in my grief. These people who began as my business associates I now call many of them friends. There are too many to mention but what I can say is this --I feel that with all of you that I have this connection, this certain bond, and I am grateful to have you in my life.

On Taking Chances

I still can’t believe that I own a computer store. My goal has always been to grow my graphic design business so why in the world would I venture into the unknown? Especially retail! Lol!  Perhaps it’s because I am an entrepreneur at heart and I see the potential? Or am I just simply crazy?? Maybe a bit of both!  Or maybe it's because I am not afraid of taking chances - Cory’s death has changed the way I look at life now.  I take a chance, if it doesn’t work, well at least I can say I tried.  After all, I took another chance on love and at first, it was scary as hell but I am so glad I took that step. I don’t think I would be where I am today without the love from George Gates.

My sons

Of course, everyone will always say they are thankful for their family and I’m no different. My sons Dustin and Jared have been my strength, especially so these past 4 years.  We have all been through hell together and that is no easy task. I am grateful for my sons’ well being, for their love and the fact that they are the most amazing young men. Cory would be so proud of them.

I am also very grateful for getting back to the gym. I took a bit of a hiatus over the summer and I am very happy  to be back on track. Besides, I need to do something to work off all the turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie I am about to indulge in this weekend! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I am Thankful to have you as a friend! I know we don't see each other often, but you and the boys are often on my mind, always in my heart.
We've come a long way from that magazine gig in the basement oh so many years ago!

I am Thankful alway, but this year especially; for my health. This has been a tough year for me physically but I continue to improve every day.
I am Thankful for Methotrexate!

I am Thankful for my large and caring tribe of friends.
I am Thankful for bellydance being in my life
I am Thankful that our ATV allows me the chance to get out to places I would never be able to get to otherwise.

I am mostly and always and forever Thankful for my family.
My Thompson family mourns the loss of my much loved mother in law this year, this will be our first Thanksgiving without her....and we will celebrate her life and remember her with laughter and more than a few tears when we gather together on Sunday.

I am blessed with a multicultural, crazy, noisy, lovely bunch and I love everyone of them. Husband, kids, grandsons, siblings, in laws, parents, nieces and nephews, lots of cousins and aunts and uncles.

Aren't I the luckiest?
